Another day . . . can't just hang out without some pesky crows in attendence!
This juvenile bald eagle is supposedly "Sonny", the elder (female) offspring of the 2005 hatching at Jericho Beach (her younger brother "Chirp" is featured on many of my pages). It seems that, sometime in Oct/Nov '05 she was recuperated and released in the field by where she was born.
She just flew off, I'm told. But observers also noticed this new arrival at the end of Spanish Banks; and that the smaller size and lighter colouring matches the released bird.
It's very exciting to me -because I will never again see her younger brother 'Baby', after he fledged- that she seems to have taken up residence! (and becoming a constant companion to the resident juvenile from last year).
This day, I remember, was not a happy one. The two juveniles where preoccupied not far out into the tidal flat, so I felt confident I would be able to skulk quite close to them, and even circle around for a better angle!
Now this has happened before, . . . people, really! Completely obliviously letting their dogs chase up and down barking, scaring all the birds. Including my two subjects.
So, . . . it IS a big deal, and they ARE distrubing nature. This nice big fish is supposed to be lunch.
This angle is cool, you can see how the feathers lie so sleek and flat and aerodynamic.
