These shots basically explains why I love doing this. My vigilance and patience is rewarded with some FANTASTIC shots of the mystery bird taking flight.

There's a little bit of warning, if you're watching closely, because these birds don't jump then madly flap their wings to take off like little birds do. They simply stretch up, reach, then let the air fill up the underneath of their wings. I guess that's why they can be so silent in flight.

The light was so great this day, all the various colours of his feathers are on display.

Now he's clearing the treetop, he may have flapped his wings slightly once, but he's really just getting ready float on an air current.

And he's off. Wings outstreached he just glides gently through the air, circles simply by tilting his wings in one direction or another.

I really have to get my hands on that motion camera . . . even with a quick succession of shots I just can't do it justice with a still camera
