Wild Bald Eagle Baby Eyeball

Wild Bald Eagle Baby Surf1

Wild Bald Eagle Surf

Mid-August came and eagle baby began to explore in between feedings. He was still very tentative and wouldn't let me get close at all but I managed to get a few reasonable shots.

As usual these pics are early in the morning before work. There were few people about and they mostly kept to themselves so, apart from my lurking, there was almost nothing to disturb baby.

I like this picture because in addition to his fluffy baby feathers you can see his big eagle eyeball as he investigates the seaweed and goop left behind by the tide. I'd say he's about half the size of his parents, who stand about three feet tall.

If you compare this photo to the one two or three weeks earlier you can see that the white feathers have started to change to brown. He really wouldn't let me get close enough for a good picture; he seemed much more comfortable up in a tree (even if he was sitting on a low branch).

It's important to me that I not freak them out, or get them to thinking that I am some kind of danger, so when they fly away from me more than once I usually stop trying and leave them alone. Or go away for a while then come back later.
