These pictures aren't very good either (I don't mean to bore you! haha), but they show the difference in colouring between the young and adult.

(If you're on a regular PC or have a crappy monitor you won't be able to see it. Too bad for you! *cheeky*).

I really just want to demonstrate how similar the adult and baby are in every other way. The silhouette, the outstretched wings . . . Apart from the size - the parent in the second pic is clearly bigger - and that the proportions are slightly differently defined, the colouring is really the only way to distinguish.

Not to say that all bald eagles look exactly the same, far from it. I have learned to distinguish Mama from Papa; at first I could only tell when they were close together (mama is bigger) but now I see that papa is sleeker, has narrower shoulders and a completely different face/beak. Mama is so pretty, I'm glad she in particular is the focus of so much of my attention.
